Planet Shift is a continuous flying simulation game. The game is about a player named Jeff who has crashed landed on an alien planet called Zing, He has to make his escape from the planets magnetic shifts in order to escape from the planet and avoid getting caught by the aliens chasing after him. To do this he needs to reach the south of the planet where the magnetic force is low giving him the ability to burst off and leave the planet.
Planet shift was a College assignment. The objective was to design a prototype of a game for the Nintendo WII U.
The game was to be made in a team of 2 consisting of one designer and one programmer. My job was to Design the games mechanics, Levels, Model and texture props required in the game, Design the UI and prepare the game design document.
The game prototype was done using the Unity engine. For the 3D models i used Maya and Photoshop for texturing.
Creating this game was a fun and challenging process. I did have issues with the draw calls generated in the game that made the game heavy and caused a lot of lag, for which i had to reduce the textures and the polygon count of the models and use the help of occlusion to optimize the game.
Currently the game is in the prototype stage but we will be working further on to complete the game and hope to at least launch it on the play store.
